The Certified Automotive Parts Association (CAPA) experienced great success with its booth at the International Autobody Congress and Exposition (NACE) in Dallas from December 6-8, 2002. CAPA tripled its booth space to 600 square feet, up from 200 square feet in 2001, allowing the organization to showcase its “Road to Certification” and display several types of aftermarket parts, including lighting. “CAPA’s presence at NACE enabled us to educate thousands of collision repairers and other interested parties about CAPA’s unique and long-standing quality certification program,” said Jack Gillis, executive director of the non-profit association. “We heard numerous positive comments about improved CAPA part quality within the past few years.”

Much of the improvement in part quality can be attributed to CAPA’s unique Vehicle Test Fit (VTF) program, which ensures that CAPA-certified parts fit a vehicle as well as, or better than the car company service part. Implemented in 1999, the Vehicle Test Fit program helps insure the quality of every CAPA-certified part and CAPA will only certify those parts that meet the extremely high standards of its VTF in conjunction with a myriad of rigid material and dimensional requirements.

The NACE booth was also used to introduce the newly approved CAPA lighting standard. The new lighting standard is in place, and CAPA is poised to certify these products in 2003.
“CAPA sees a great future in certified aftermarket lighting. Lighting products submitted to CAPA will have to meet the strictest of quality standards before they can become certified, so repairers can feel confident they are getting a high quality alternative to car company products” said Gillis.

CAPA also introduced a new brochure during NACE describing the program. Anyone who would like a copy can contact the CAPA office at (202) 737-2212, info@CAPAcertified.org or download it from the website.

The Certified Automotive Parts Association, founded in 1987, is the nation’s only independent, non-profit, third party crash parts quality certification organization. CAPA certification identifies, for both consumers and the industry, those parts that meet our high quality standards for fit, form, finish, material content and corrosion resistance.
